In Loving Memory

James F Hankins
May 25, 1962 — May 18, 2026
James F. Hankins, a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 63 years old. Born on May 25, 1962, in Peoria, James was a pillar of strength and kindness to all who knew him.
James was the beloved son of the late Jimmy and Mary Hankins, who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and resilience. Though James faced life's challenges with unwavering determination, he was never without a smile, always striving to bring joy and laughter to those around him.
In 1992, James married the love of his life, Brenda Hankins. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams, raising two wonderful children, Bobby Jo Hankins and Sarah Hankins. James and Brenda's marriage was a testament to enduring love, as they remained devoted partners for 44 years until Brenda's untimely passing in July 2025.
James found fulfillment in his work as a mechanic, operating out of his garage in Peoria, where his dedication and skill were evident in every car he repaired. His passion for mechanics was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. James cherished time spent fishing, relaxing on the porch, and enjoyed the thrill of car derbies and hunting.
He is survived by his children, Bobby Jo and Sarah, who were the pride and joy of his life. James is also lovingly remembered by his brother, David Hankins, with whom he shared countless memories and a lifelong bond.
James's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, respecting his wishes for an intimate farewell surrounded by those closest to him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Saint Francis Medical Center for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
As we remember James, let us carry forward his legacy of laughter and kindness. He taught us to find joy in the simple pleasures and to face life's adversities with courage and a smile. James's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local cancer support organization, honoring James's enduring strength and the hope he inspired in others.
