It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of James Eugene Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on May 15, 2026, at the age of 89. James was born on July 28, 1936, in Sterling, Colorado, to the late Delbert and Margaret Johnson, and was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him.
James was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Mary Yule (Wolfe) Johnson, with whom he shared a remarkable 62 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and a touch of chaos. Together, they raised 12 wonderful children, Joanne Roelle (Larry), Brenda Branscom, Vonda Barnes (Don), Mark Johnson (Michelle), Tom Johnson (Patty), Ann Alburn (Craig), Jay Johnson, Diann Wood (Jeff), Teresa McIntyre (Kevin), Mary Johnson, Jennifer Johnson (Dillon), and Rae Thomas (Danny). James was a pillar of strength and a guiding light for his family, which grew to include 39 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply.
A proud graduate of Peetz High School in 1954, James went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. Upon returning home, he embarked on a successful career working at various gas companies before retiring from AmeriGas in 2001. His work was marked by dedication and integrity, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends.
James was a man of simple joys and profound wisdom, whose hobbies reflected his love for life's natural beauty. Whether tending to his garden, raising animals, fishing, or woodworking, James found solace and satisfaction in these pursuits. An avid sports enthusiast, he relished watching games and cheering for his favorite teams, often with family by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, their devoted children, and his siblings, Dorothy Kallweit, Mary Hill, Barb Schnug (Dutch), and Charles Johnson (Kris). James is predeceased by his dear parents, his sisters Ginger Fehringer, Janet Willich, Patricia Volle, brothers John, Art, and Bill, and his son-in-law, Alan Branscom. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and family unity, values he instilled in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
