James Elsworth Calloway, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on August 27, 2026. Born on March 18, 1957, in Bedford, Virginia, James was the cherished son of Adolphin and Rebecca Calloway.
James was a man with a vibrant spirit and a deep love for life. He graduated from Madison High School and went on to work in various jobs throughout his life, ultimately dedicating 15 years to Walmart before retiring in 2018. Known for his sharp memory and love of sports with his favorite team being Cleveland Browns. James could recall events from decades past with astonishing detail and was always eager to share his extensive knowledge about sports with anyone willing to listen.
A man of great humor and warmth, James was outspoken and had an incredible ability to make those around him laugh. He was deeply committed to his family and would go to great lengths to support them in any way he could.
James was predeceased by his brothers JohnEd, Richard, Al'Clayter (Donald) Calloway, and sisters Carrie L. Jones, Ann (Jesus) Bermudez, Shirley (Robert) Lemons, and Linda Calloway and His Favorite nephew Btrandon Calloway. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his son, James Lorell Johnson, grandson James "Doobie" (Victoria) Johnson, granddaughters Raven and Reagan, and four great-grandchildren. His Sisters Leticia and Grace and Brother Adolphin Calloway. His Favorite nieces Shannell and Tiera and host of family and friend.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate James's life on September 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Memories Funeral Home, located at 1005 Hudson Ave, Rochester, NY 14621. His family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in James's memory.
