October 5, 1965 — October 15, 2026

In loving memory of James Eldridge Sr., who passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 5, 1965, in Greenville, Mississippi, James was the cherished son of Mary and John Eldridge and brother to the late Johnny Eldridge. James's life was a testament to dedication and service, both to his family and his country. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1983, he answered the call to serve in the United States Army. Stationed in Saudi Arabia, James served with distinction and honor, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning a medal of honor for his valor. His service to his country was a source of immense pride, underpinning his character with humility and strength. Upon returning home, James pursued higher education, earning a Doctoral degree in Public Communication from Atkins University. He went on to share his passion for communication as a beloved college professor at ASU, inspiring countless students with his wisdom and kindness. His talents extended beyond academia; he was a skilled mechanic who enjoyed working on 18-wheelers in his spare time. In his personal life, James was a devoted husband to Amy Eldridge, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of over four decades. Their love story began in a local grocery store and led to a courthouse wedding in Arkansas. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising two children, James (Katie) Eldridge Jr. and Sandy (Terell) Oxford, and delighting in the joy of two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. James's family was his pride and joy, and his legacy lives on through them. A man of faith, James was a dedicated member of Unity Study Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon board for over 20 years. His commitment to his community was unwavering, and his warm smile and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. James had a zest for life that included horseback riding on the farm with his children and grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will endure in their hearts. James will be remembered not only for his achievements and service but for his genuine warmth and ability to connect with everyone he met. He never met a stranger, always greeting others with a smile that could light up a room. A service to celebrate James's life will be held on October 31, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Unity Study Baptist Church, located at 123 Martin Luther King Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that held a special place in James's heart. As we gather to honor James Eldridge Sr., we reflect on a life well-lived and a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire us all.
