Born to Mary and Robert Ringgold, James grew up with a spirit as vibrant as the community that surrounded him. He carried the values instilled by his loving parents throughout his life, never failing to honor their legacy with grace and dignity. His parents, who predeceased him, undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into the next life. James attended Hereford High School, where he began cultivating the traits that would define him—a welcoming smile and a jokester's sense of humor. These qualities endeared him to everyone he met, allowing him to forge friendships that spanned the decades. In 1954, James answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the Army. His service, which lasted until 1956, was a testament to his unwavering dedication and patriotism. Upon completing his military duty, he embarked on a successful career with the Baltimore County Department of Highway, where he worked diligently to improve the lives of those in his community. A man of many affiliations, James was a proud member of the Elks Lodge 842 in Towson, MD. His involvement in this esteemed organization reflected his commitment to fellowship and community service. He relished the camaraderie and the opportunity to give back, always leading with kindness and a jovial spirit. James's family was his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his beloved children, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore Ringgold, who carry forward his legacy of laughter and love. His sister, Mary, remains a testament to the enduring bond they shared. James leaves behind a rich tapestry of love in the form of six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each a bright reflection of his enduring spirit. Though he has departed from this world, James's memory will forever be a beacon of joy and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in honor of James's generous spirit and his lifelong dedication to helping others. A celebration of James Edward Ringgold's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to laugh, reminisce, and share stories of a man whose life was a testament to love, service, and joy.
