James Edward “Redd” Smith, a cherished member of the Copiah County community, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026. Born on April 2, 1959, James spent his life embodying the values of hard work, kindness, and community spirit.
James, affectionately known as “Redd” to those who loved him, was the beloved son of Floya Smith. He was predeceased by his devoted mother and his siblings Joyce Killingsworth, Winnie Sandifer, R.L. Smith, P.B. Smith, Ollie Smith, Johnny L. Smith, and Curtis Smith. These familial bonds were the cornerstone of his life, shaping the generous and caring man he became.
A proud graduate of Parrish High School, James dedicated his career to serving others in various capacities. Whether as a cook, janitor, carpenter, or plumber, he was known for his unwavering work ethic and his readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him a beloved figure in the community.
James is survived by his loving son, Antwan Jackson, who carries forward his father's legacy of kindness and integrity. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Maxine Linson and Glenda Jefferson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherished his lively spirit and infectious laughter. James was also a proud grandfather, blessed with one grandchild who brought immense joy to his life.
A celebration of James’s life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, located at 421 West Cunningham Ave. in Terry, MS. As we gather to honor his remarkable legacy, we remember James not only for his diverse skills and talents but for the love and warmth he shared with those around him.
