James was the beloved son of the late Reece and James Matthews, who have preceded him in death. He was a devoted husband to Tori Matthews, whom he married in August 2014, and together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. As a father, James was unparalleled, guiding his children—Kayla Matthews, Syncear Matthews, Niyahni Spears, and Lundyn Spears—with wisdom and warmth. He was also a proud grandfather to Jayce Matthews and Troi Hamm, who brought immense joy to his life. A graduate of Harrisburg High School in 1990, James embarked on a career that demonstrated his commitment to serving others. He worked as a Correctional Officer at Camp Hill Prison in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, where he was respected by colleagues and inmates alike for his fairness and compassion. Beyond his professional life, James had an adventurous spirit, which was evident in his love for riding motorcycles and traveling. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, often found cheering on his favorite teams with boundless enthusiasm. Though his life was tragically cut short by a car accident, James's legacy will forever endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
