James Edward "Bomber" Massey, a man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. Born in the heart of Kansas City, Kansas, James entered this world with a spirit that would touch the lives of many. As the son of James H. Massey and Doris Erlene Johnston Massey, James was nurtured in a home filled with warmth and love, values that he carried with him throughout his life.
James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James H. Massey and Doris Erlene Massey, as well as his stepfather, Clarence Craighead, who played a significant role in his upbringing. While their absence leaves a void, the legacy of their influence remains steadfast in the character and values that James embodied.
In the springtime of 1964, love blossomed in James’s life when he married the love of his life, Nancy Carolyn Edding, on March 7. Their union, which spanned an incredible 62 years, was characterized by unwavering support, shared dreams, and countless cherished memories. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep commitment to family.
James’s life was further enriched by his daughters, Robin Lynn and her husband Todd Rentfro, and Rhonda Lee Welch, who were the pride and joy of his existence. His wisdom and kindness were the guiding light for his family, and he took immense joy in watching his daughters grow and flourish.
James was also the cherished brother of Dorothy Chancellor and Norma Geissler, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and a bond that remained unbreakable through the years.
As a grandfather, James was blessed with three grandchildren - Jeffery Imler, Jordan Policky, and Katelynn Beaton. His role as a grandfather was one he treasured deeply, and he was a source of strength and guidance for his grandchildren. The joy of his later years was further amplified by the arrival of eight great-grandchildren, who brought boundless energy and delight into his life.
