James Earl Glaze, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 87. James was born on November 13, 1938, in the heart of Florence, Alabama, where he spent his formative years and forged a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community. His life was tragically cut short after a car accident, and he passed peacefully at UAB Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. James was the cherished son of the late Robert and Blanche Glaze. He was one of nine siblings and was preceded in death by his brothers Walton, David, Robert, Haywood, and Jimmy Glaze, his sister Charity Vinson, as well as his son, James W. Glaze, his daughter, Serenna Ivey, and his grandchildren, Justin Holden and Megan Glaze. Though his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, his legacy of kindness and resilience endures through his surviving family. James's life was a testament to the strength and unity of family. He is survived by his children, Loretta Norman and her husband Matt, Leon Glaze, Randy and Tim Yarbrough, Teresa Johnson and her husband Eric, and Sonya Pace. His grandchildren, Corey, Shyanne, Dylan, Matthew, Makenzie, Marissa, Tiffany, Jessica, and Bubba, were his pride and joy. James also counted himself blessed to be a great-grandfather to many, and his legacy will continue through the lives of his numerous great-grandchildren. James shared a unique bond with his surviving siblings, John Glaze and his wife Denise, Floyd Glaze, and his sister Betty Bobo. He was a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews, and he leaves behind a host of cousins who will forever cherish the memories and laughter they shared with him. Throughout his life, James embodied the values of compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication. He was known for his gentle spirit and his ability to bring warmth and joy to any room. His passions included spending time with family, nurturing his garden, and sharing stories of days gone by. James's life will be celebrated on May 9, 2026, at Spry Williams Funeral Home in Florence, Alabama. The service will commence at 10:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor a life that touched so many and to share in the memories of a man who lived with purpose and heart.
