James E Benton
September 2, 1936 — August 22, 2026
James E. Benton, aged 89, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on September 2, 1936, in Portage, Pennsylvania, James lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
James was the cherished son of the late James and Martha Benton. He shared a special bond with his sister, Ruby Patterson, who also predeceased him. In August of 1960, James married the love of his life, Dorothy Baldwin. The two shared a beautiful partnership until Dorothy's passing, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and love that has inspired their family.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years, an experience that he held dear throughout his life. Following his military service, James embarked on a long and rewarding career in the banking and finance sector, where he was respected for his integrity and professionalism.
A man of many passions, James found great joy in the outdoors, especially through hunting and fishing. These activities were not just hobbies, but cherished opportunities to bond with his eldest son, Greg, and grandson, Derik. He also had a deep appreciation for classic cars, particularly the models of the 1950s and 60s, a passion he shared with his younger son, Tim.
James is survived by his sons, Greg, along with his wife Karen, and Tim. He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie and Derik, and a doting great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years.
James's life was a testament to the values of family, perseverance, and kindness. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in James's memory, as a tribute to his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
As we remember James E. Benton, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, laughter, and a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
