It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Douglas Stevenson on July 8, 2026, at the age of 75. James passed away peacefully in his beloved hometown of Juneau, Alaska, surrounded by family and love. Born on January 4, 1951, to Robert (RD) and Elsie Stevenson, James grew up in the awe-inspiring landscapes of Juneau. From an early age, James developed a deep love for Alaska and all its natural wonders—a passion that would thread through every chapter of his life. James graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1969 and continued his education at the University of Alaska. He embarked on a diverse career journey, bringing his dedication and strong work ethic to roles at Alaska Laundry, the North Slope, Douglas Trucking, UPS, and the State of Alaska. His colleagues remember him for his unwavering commitment and warm camaraderie. A man of many interests, James found immense joy in fishing and boating, often exploring the serene waters of Alaska. His green thumb was evident in the time he spent nurturing his garden, where he found solace and connection to the earth. An avid sports enthusiast, James was a steadfast fan of the Washington Huskies, cheering them on with fervor. He also delighted in attending University of Alaska basketball games, sharing the excitement with fellow fans. James had a spirit of adventure, which led him to countless travels around the state in his RV. These journeys were filled with exploration and discovery, allowing him to embrace the beauty of his cherished homeland fully. Though predeceased by his parents, RD and Elsie Stevenson, and his brothers, Bill and Bob Stevenson, Jr., James leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his niece, Amanda Miller and her husband Alex, his nephew, Brian Stevenson, and his sister-in-law, Cindy Stevenson. James’s family will forever treasure his memory, his kindness, and the joy he brought into their lives. In remembrance of James, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring his legacy of generosity and compassion. James Douglas Stevenson will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His adventurous spirit, love of Alaska, and enduring kindness have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. May we carry forward his memory with the same warmth and love he shared with the world.
