James “Dick” Crum

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of James "Dick" Crum, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on August 8, 2026. Born on July 24, 1956, in Crawfordville, Florida, Dick was a cherished member of his community and a gentle spirit who touched the lives of many. Dick was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, Bertha and Alexander "Buddy" Crum, who instilled in him the values of kindness, humor, and resilience. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, his parents, and his brother, Sammy Crum. He now joins them in eternal rest. A proud alumnus of Wakulla High School, Dick went on to lead a life filled with hard work and dedication. For many years, he served his community as a taxi driver, known for his friendly demeanor and willingness to lend an ear to anyone in need. Later, he pursued his passion for cooking, sharing his culinary talents with family and friends, especially through his famous fried fish, cheese grits, hush puppies, and deviled crab. Dick was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was, as he liked to say, "born with a rod and reel in his hands." Fishing was not just a hobby, but a way of life for him, and he spent countless hours at Lake Talquin and Mack Lake, casting his line into the water. Music was another of Dick's passions; he would often be found cleaning fish with the melodies of his favorite CDs playing in the background. His sense of humor was infectious, and he was known for his ability to crack a good joke or playfully rib those he cared about. Dick's selflessness was unparalleled; he was always there to help others, irrespective of the time or task. He leaves behind his siblings, Robert "Bob" Walker, Gloria Metcalf, Mitchell Crum, and Richard "Noel" Crum, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory and the laughter he brought into their lives. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who ensured that Dick felt loved and appreciated during his final days. Your presence and kindness meant the world to him, and he found great comfort in your company.
