James Denis Packer Jr.

In loving memory of James Denis Packer Jr., who was born on January 27, 1953, in Mobile, Alabama, and peacefully passed away surrounded by family on August 1, 2026, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. James lived a life full of love, dedication, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Fannie M. Packer, whom he met and married at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, NC. Together, they built a beautiful family, including their cherished daughter, Fawn A. Anderson, and beloved grandson, Semaj' D. Stewart. James is also survived by his siblings, Genevia (Tommy) Taylor, Susan Packer, and Darren Packer, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, including Carla Taylor, Duwan Taylor, and Kelvin (Tisha) Heard. He was a treasured uncle to Kaesen and Kade McLain and a loving brother-in-law to Laura McLain. James was predeceased by his father, James D. Packer, and his brothers, Herman and Earl Packer. His memory will forever be held dear by his family, including his four aunts and two uncles, who survive him. A proud graduate of Fairhope High School, Class of 1971, James pursued his passion for education, earning an Associate of Arts from Saint Leo College in 1996, an Associate in Applied Science in Aircrew Operations from the Community College of the Air Force in 1995, and a Bachelor of Science in Education (Technical, Trade, and Industrial Education) from Valdosta State University in 2006. James dedicated 26 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Air Force. He began his military career in Information Management and later became a C-130 Loadmaster, rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. His distinguished service was recognized through numerous commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, and many others. He was a proud member of the VFW and a Mason, and his commitment to service extended beyond his military career. An avid golfer, James found joy and camaraderie on the greens. His love for the sport was matched only by his love for his family and friends, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. A service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on August 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at White Stone Baptist Church, located at 1015 Mobile St., Mobile, AL 366171. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects to a man who gave so much to so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in James's memory. They would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and The Dialysis Center of Hattiesburg, MS, for their care and support. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones for generations to come.
