James David West Sr, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, GA. Born on April 10, 1940, in Tifton, GA. James spent his life deeply rooted in the community he cherished, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will endure through generations. James was the cherished son of Willie James West and Louisa Harris. He was nurtured in faith and community at St. Paul Baptist Church, where he not only received his education but also remained a devout member throughout his life. His faith was a guiding light, shaping his gentle and humble spirit. On December 13, 1957, James married the love of his life, Ollie Mae Corbin. Together, they nurtured a loving family until her passing on January 14, 2006. Their union was blessed with a beautiful family, affectionately known as "The Magnificent 7": Johnny West (Geraldine), Sander West, Jesse West, Oscar West, Dorothy West, Donna West, and James West Jr. They were the pride and joy of his life, and he relished every moment spent with them. James dedicated his life to farming, a profession that allowed him to work the land and provide for his family. Through his hard work, he taught his children the values of perseverance and dedication. Even after retirement, his love for the simple joys of life never waned. He found great pleasure in watching Westerns, wrestling, and his favorite soap opera, "The Young and the Restless." Gospel music filled his heart with peace and joy, resonating with his soul. James was a man of humble demeanor, marked by his kindness and easygoing nature. He was a beacon of support and love to all who knew him, and his family was the centerpiece of his world. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to be reflected in the lives of his cherished family and friends. A service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Great Morris Tabernacle, located at 701 N Joe Wright Dr., Cordele, GA. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time. As his children lovingly say, "Your children, The Magnificent 7, will love you forever." James will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
