In Loving Memory

James Dale Kennedy
May 24, 1984 — November 19, 2025
James Dale Kennedy, affectionately known as “Sonny” to his family and friends was born on May 24th, 1984, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Sonny’s spirit left his earthly body on November 19th, 2025, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 41.
While he faced many hardships throughout his journey, it is his enduring spirit and tender heart that we choose to remember and celebrate.
Sonny was the deeply loved and adored son of the late James Michael “Mike” Kennedy and Shelia Ann Bachus Kennedy.
He grew up held closely by his family, wrapped in their love, and surrounded by joyous personalities. He inherited his sense of humor and the expertise of affectionate teasing from his Great Grandmother Verna Henshaw, while cherishing the warmth of his grandmother Norma Kennedy, both of whom he has now followed in peace.
Sonny was also preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Shelia Kennedy.
Among those who will continue to carry Sonny’s memory forward are his treasured son Kaiden Kennedy; his sister, Veronica Kennedy; his niece, Laine Cole; his aunt, Patsy Goad; his cousins, including Jessica Rice, Shelly Shelton, Sherrie Billings, Lauren May, and Dalton May; his chosen brother Nathan Keys; as well as many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
From a young age, Sonny was well known for his lively spirit and onery yet unmistakably kind nature. He was truly a genuine source of light to those who knew him, and his infectious energy could always bring about a laugh or two.
Later on, life led him to serve his country with honor and distinction. At merely twenty-one, following the tragic loss of his mother, Sonny boldly enlisted in the United States Army, where he then served four years and was briefly stationed in Iraq during 2008, a period that left an indelible mark on his life.
He returned to civilian life with an honorable discharge, having served his nation with bravery and commitment, yet carrying the quiet weight of his experiences.
Sonny’s life was a tapestry woven with joy and struggle. While facing unimaginable challenges throughout his journey, he always endeavored to fight his way back to the person he once was.
Despite the demons he battled, he managed to touch the lives of everyone he encountered with his sincere kindness and lighthearted spirit.
Through his cherished son, Kaiden Kennedy, who was the absolute pride and joy of his life, Sonny leaves behind a legacy of what it means to hold on to hope with everything you’ve got and to love without abandon.
His passing is a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those who struggle with the weight of invisible burdens.
As we say goodbye, we find solace in knowing that he is at peace.
A private service will be held to honor Sonny’s life, where family and close friends will gather to celebrate the memories and moments, they were fortunate to share with him.
Rest in peace, dear Sonny. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
