James Curtis Shanklin IV, a beacon of joy and laughter, passed away on August 16, 2026. Born on December 24, 1968, in Columbus, Mississippi, James brought light and warmth into the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of humor, love, and resilience that will be cherished by his family and friends forever. James was the beloved son of Linda Mae McCoy and the late James Curtis Shanklin III. His father, who predeceased him, undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms. James is survived by his loving mother, Linda Mae Shanklin, and his devoted brother, Reginald B. Shanklin, who both treasure the countless memories filled with laughter and joy. A graduate of Normandy Senior High, James was a man of many talents and interests. He embarked on a journey through various professions, never limiting himself to one path, and finding joy in every endeavor. His versatility and willingness to embrace any type of work were a testament to his adventurous spirit and open heart. James was a 420 enthusiast who found immense pleasure in the simple joys of life. He was an avid billiards player, a passionate fisherman, and a talented cook. Above all, he delighted in living life to the fullest and making every moment count. His ability to lighten up any room with his jovial nature and quick wit made him the life of every party and a cherished focal point among friends and family. James faced health challenges with remarkable courage, enduring a heart attack and several seizures while being a dialysis patient. Despite these obstacles, he remained a source of strength and positivity to those around him. The Shanklin family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Fresenius Kidney Care for their unwavering support during James's dialysis treatments, and to DePaul hospital for their compassionate care in his final days. In honor of James's generous spirit, the family requests that those wishing to pay tribute consider organ donation, a cause close to his heart. James Curtis Shanklin IV will be deeply missed, but his spirit will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his memory be a blessing to us all.
