May 3, 1976 — April 22, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Curtis Garvin Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on April 22, 2026, at the age of 49. Born on May 3, 1976, in New York, NY, James was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. James was the cherished son of the late Diana and James Curtis Garvin Sr., and their loving memory will forever be honored through his life and legacy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Lekeisha Garvin, who stood by his side as a partner and confidante, sharing a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised three wonderful children—Toshae Bee, Jayden Garvin, Asia Garvin, and Aaliyah Garvin—in the welcoming suburbs of Stratford, CT. James was not only a loving husband and father but also a treasured brother to Jasmine Harvey, Judith Harvey, Jamel Harvey, and Regina Garvin. His generosity and warmth extended to his in-laws, Thereston & Tamika Williams-Cabrera, Sean Morris, Emmus & Ieshia Crawford, and a host of additional siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews. Though he did not have grandchildren or great-grandchildren, his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Professionally, James was a talented music DJ, known for his ability to bring people together through the universal language of music. Yet, his true passion lay in the art of cooking, where he was celebrated for his culinary skills and his innate ability to make everyone feel at home. His kitchen was a sanctuary of comfort and camaraderie, and he was known for his quick wit, warm personality, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone who crossed his path. James found immense joy in hosting family gatherings, where his laughter and humor filled the air, and his generosity was a testament to the love he had for his family and friends. He had a gift for creating moments that will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to have shared them with him. A service to honor and celebrate the life of James Curtis Garvin Jr. will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Bennett Funeral Home, located at 1120 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bennett Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this difficult time. As we say goodbye to James, we hold onto the memories and the love he shared with us, comforting ourselves with the knowledge that his spirit and light will continue to guide us. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
