Born on October 10, 1954, in the vibrant city of Chicago, James was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him. He was the cherished son of the late James Cross Sr. and Johnnie Mae Cross, whose guidance and love shaped him into the remarkable man he became. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted follower of Christ, and his life was a testament to the grace and strength that comes from living with purpose. His every action was deeply rooted in his love for his family and his faith. James was predeceased by many loved ones who were dear to his heart: his brothers Henry, Bobby, Larry, and Bill (Junior), his sisters Melvina and Juanita, brother-in-law Carl, nephew Dwight, stepson Terrance, and Terrance's son, Terrance Jr., as well as his stepmother, Odell Williams. Their memories were cherished in his heart as he carried their spirits with him throughout his journey. He leaves behind a legacy of love that continues to bloom in the lives of his 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He passed down traditions and wisdom, ensuring that his family's roots remained strong and deeply connected. James's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and resilience. He touched the lives of many, offering a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need. His generous spirit and compassionate nature were a source of comfort and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him. In accordance with James's wishes, a private funeral service will be held to honor his life and his enduring impact on those he loved. As his family gathers to celebrate his journey, they take solace in the special message he left behind: "I’m Taking My Rest…. Don’t weep to me, dear loved ones, For I departed to take my rest, I know that you loved me dearly, But my Father loved me best, He has taken me from life's suffering; To a place where I have no more pain, And has given me hope that in the rapture, I’ll unite with each of you again, Be strong and live for Jesus, Take heed to words that you hear, live holy and love one another, Don’t sorrow at my homecoming, for only Father knows what is best, For I’ve finished my earthly assignment, Now I’m taking my rest." His sisters, brothers, and their families share this heartfelt message, reminding us that though James has taken his rest, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him. May his memory be a blessing, and may the love he shared continue to inspire us to live with grace and kindness.
