James L. Bonham Jr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 22, 1937, in Roxton, Texas, Jim was the cherished son of James L Bonham and Madleen Helms Bonham. He carried the legacy of kindness and warmth instilled by his parents throughout his life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Denison High School in 1955, James embarked on a remarkable career with Rainbo Bakery, dedicating 33 years to route sales across Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Dallas, Texas. His commitment to his work was only rivaled by his passion for people. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Jim had a unique ability to brighten any room he entered. His humor was infectious, and he was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, making everyone feel welcome and valued.
Jim was a devoted member of the Mesquite Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Dallas, where he forged lasting friendships and contributed to his community. His generosity and kindness touched countless lives, and his legacy will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In 2006, Jim married the love of his life, Darline Hall Ethington, at a beautiful ceremony in Westlake City Park, Mesquite, Texas. Their love story was one of adventure and companionship, traveling the world by air and ship, always side by side. Together, they created a blended family filled with love and joy.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Darline Bonham; his daughters, Cheryl Love and her husband Donnie, and Sonia Thornley; his son, Curtis Bonham; and his daughter-in-law, Alma Bonham. He also leaves behind two stepdaughters and their husbands, along with a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He is predeceased by his parents, James L Bonham Sr. and Madleen Bonham, his brothers Raymond E Bonham, and Wes Bonham and his son John W Bonham. Though they have passed, their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
A service to celebrate James's extraordinary life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 W Main St, Denison, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life well-lived, a man well-loved.
James Bonham's life was a testament to love, laughter, and generosity. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind. As we say goodbye, we hold dear the warmth of his smile, the joy of his laughter, and the love he so freely gave.
