James Bernard McQueen, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on November 27, 1961, in Los Angeles, CA, James was the cherished son of John and Gladys McQueen, who predeceased him. James's journey was marked by a vibrant spirit and a relentless work ethic. A graduate of James Madison High School's class of 1980, he set an example of perseverance and versatility throughout his life. Known as a "straight up Hustler," James excelled in various fields, offering his talents in lawn care, car maintenance, culinary arts, and photography. His diverse skills and commitment to quality were well-recognized and appreciated by those who had the privilege of knowing him. In the spring of 1994, James married the love of his life, LaJuana McQueen. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and happiness. He leaves behind his devoted wife, LaJuana, and their daughters, LaToya Stovall, Ashley Smith, and Koria Smith, who will continue to honor his memory and teachings. James was also a proud grandfather to Ryan Smith, with whom he shared many joyful moments. James's life was enriched by his faith and dedication to his community. A faithful member of the HOUSE OF Hope in Dallas, TX, he expressed his passion for music by serving as a drummer in the music ministry. His contributions to the church community were profound and enduring, reflecting his deep commitment to his beliefs and to those around him. James is survived by his loving sister, LaTonya Ganter, niece Corinth Alexander, brother Jeffrey McQueen, sister-in-law Saline (Yvette) Coleman, niece LaTonya Thompson, nephew LaKendrick Demus, and nieces Jalesa Coleman, Jalena McQueen, and Jakia McQueen. He also leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones who were touched by his kindness and generosity. The family wishes to share a special message from James, “Let not your heart be troubled I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.’ ‘In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.’ ‘And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying.’” In keeping with James's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in James's memory to a charity of your choice. James Bernard McQueen will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his boundless love for his family, and his selfless contributions to his community. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who knew and loved him.
