James was the cherished son of Mrs. Clara Chism and was predeceased by his beloved wife of 25 years, Michalene Benton. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories that will be treasured forever. James's devotion to his family was unparalleled, and he was a proud father to Jovonne Bailey, Andre Benton, Javontae Griffin, and Shyanne Griffin. He was also a doting grandfather to 48 grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Throughout his life, James was renowned for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to bring joy to those around him. Always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, he had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel at ease. His down-to-earth nature and outgoing personality endeared him to many, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
