James Alonzo Lewis Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who departed this world on July 7, 2026. James was born on March 31, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia, to James Alonzo Lewis Sr. and Fannie B. Lewis. He left us peacefully in the comfort of the Veteran Hospice Unit, surrounded by the love and warmth of his devoted family. James led a life defined by service, generosity, and deep-rooted faith. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, VA, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. In his military career, he served with honor and distinction, ultimately retiring from service. A faithful and active member of Faith Landmark Ministries, James was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. His infectious smile and warm demeanor touched the hearts of many. James's passions extended beyond his ministry work. He found joy in fishing, afternoons at the track, and most importantly, in helping others. He had an extraordinary ability to see the needs of those around him. His philosophy was simple: no one should have to ask for help when their need is visible. He is survived by his treasured children, son Julian Lewis and daughter Felecia Harris, who carry forward his legacy of love and integrity. His three cherished grandchildren, Jayce, Traesen, and Halima, were the lights of his life, bringing him immense pride and joy. James also survived by his dear sisters, Dorothy Terrell and Georgia Jones, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dedicated close friends. He was predeceased by his father James A Lewis Sr, his mother Fannie B. Lewis, loving sister, Clara Winston, and brothers, Gabriel and Earnest Spindle, who have surely welcomed him with open arms. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the McGuire Veteran Medical Facility Hospice Unit for the exceptional care and compassion shown during his stay. The dedication and kindness received were beyond anything ever expected. As we remember James Alonzo Lewis Jr., we hold close the words of Frank L. Baum: "The true impact of a heart is measured by the love it receives in return." James's heart was immeasurable, his love vast, and his impact profound.
