James Alfred Lewis

December 5, 1983 — October 15, 2026

James Alfred Lewis, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, at the age of 42, due to complications from sickle cell disease. Born on December 5, 1983, in Berkley, California, James was a beacon of love and resilience, touching the lives of everyone he encountered. James was the cherished son of the late Robyn D. Hubbard and Lorenzia Lewis Sr. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, his sister Ora L. Lewis, and Trina V. Lewis Moore. His legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Nicole Carter-Lewis, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of 20 years and four years of marriage, and their loving daughter, Nyla Carter-Lewis, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Jasmine Morris, Lydia Lewis, and Maggie Lewis, and brothers Lorenzo Lewis Jr. (Linda Lewis), and Malik Muhammed (Everett Lewis). James leaves behind a large extended family, including his mother-in-law, Christy Wilson, father-in-law, Lin McClain, brother-in-law, Alex McClain, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will miss him dearly. A proud alumnus of St. Bernard and St. Elizabeth schools, James pursued his passion for helping others by studying nursing at Laney College in Oakland, California. He dedicated many years to the Hayward United School District, and later took his expertise to BART. As his health demanded a gentler pace, James found fulfillment working with United Supportive Living LLC, where he lovingly cared for adults with special needs. James was a proud member of the sickle cell community, advocating for awareness and support. His vibrant personality shone through in his love for family gatherings and spirited conversations. He believed in the power of connection and the stories behind every face he met. A lover of chance, he found joy in casino visits and deeply cherished his fishing trips with his great friend Archie, so hopefully they are somewhere sitting in heaven now having a good old time laughing and fishing. James was known for his ability to fill a room with laughter and warmth. He expressed his love freely and fiercely, leaving no doubt in the hearts of his loved ones of their immeasurable value to him. I want to truly thank everyone from the bottom of my heart that helped me and my family without question, because you have actively been in our lives whether you knew James story or not you knew his heart so you knew mines. But we will forever continue to try and live a life my husband James Alfred Lewis always strived for " A Broke Nigga Ain't Shit"
