James Edward Ringgold

James Edward Ringgold Sr., aka Jimmy, a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on November 6, 1938, in Sparks, Maryland, Jimmy was the son of Joseph and Gladis Ringgold. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication that will be remembered by all. Jimmy was educated in the Baltimore County Public Schools system before he answered the call to serve his country. From 1954 to 1956, he served honorably in the United States Army, a commitment he held with pride throughout his life. After his military service, Jimmy dedicated over 40 years to the Baltimore County Highway Division, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to his community. In addition to his full-time career, he also worked several part-time jobs for over 30 years, embodying the spirit of hard work and perseverance. A member of the Pride of Towson Lodge #842 for more than 60 years, Jimmy was a man who valued community and camaraderie. He was known for his quick wit and infectious humor, always ready with a joke to bring smiles to those around him. Jimmy is survived by his devoted sister, Emma Richardson, and his brother, Moses Fisher. His children, James, Jerry, Donna, Jeffrey, and Jay, along with his beloved daughter-in-law, Chris, will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon, who he now joins in eternal rest. As a grandfather to eight grandchildren Jimmy had a special relationship with his grandson David Brown. He is a great-grandfather of four, Jimmy was very proud to see his family extending. His family also goes beyond blood, including many other family members, nieces, nephews and friends who will deeply miss his presence. Emma Richardson, (Jimmy's sister), shared a heartfelt message: "Jimmy and I were very close. He always looked up to me for advice, and we spoke on the phone every day. You will be truly missed. As we celebrate the life of James "Jimmy" Ringgold, we remember a man who lived fully, loved, and laughed heartily.
