In Loving Memory of Jala Yasmeen Charles It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jala Yasmeen Charles, who left us all too soon on September 2, 2026, at the tender age of 19. Born on February 16, 2007, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Jala was a bright light whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Jala was the beloved daughter of Kevin "Kaleem" Charles and Aquita "Missy" Charles. She was the cherished sister of Khalil Melson and Jaleel Charles, and a dear sister-in-law to Melson. Jala's memory will be forever held dear by her parents, siblings, and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were blessed to know her. Jala's educational journey began at Warren High School in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated in 2025. She was pursuing her studies at St. Philip's College, eager to carve out a future full of promise and potential. Alongside her studies, Jala was a dedicated employee at Clearvision Window Cleaning, where her diligent work ethic and sunny disposition made her a valued team member. Though her life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident, Jala's spirit remains unbroken in the hearts of those who loved her. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Erving S. Charles Jr., Catherine B. Charles, Franklin Melson Sr., and Elizabeth Melson, who now welcome her into their loving embrace. A celebration of Jala's life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jala are invited to join in honoring her memory and sharing stories of the joy and laughter she brought into this world. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Jala's generous and caring nature.
