Jacquelyn Grimes
November 19, 1932 — May 22, 2026
In loving memory of Jacquelyn Grimes, who graced this world with her vibrant spirit for 93 enriching years. Born on November 19, 1932, in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky, Jacquelyn was the beloved daughter of Johnnie and Hilda Jackson. She peacefully departed this life on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and indelible warmth.
Jacquelyn, known to many as "Granny," was a beacon of joy and wisdom. Her journey began at Dunbar High School, where she graduated in 1950, laying the foundation for a life defined by dedication and compassion. She spent many fulfilling years working at the American Can Company and St. Joseph Hospital, where her colleagues fondly remember her quick wit and the warmth of her smile.
Her beloved husband, George T. Grimes, predeceased her, along with her parents and siblings, Johnnie, Harold, Josephine, and Ann. Despite these profound losses, Jacquelyn's spirit remained unbroken, and her heart open to those around her. She is survived by her cherished children, Terry, Toya, and Geoffrey, whose lives she enriched with her boundless love and guidance. Her sister, Winston Mitchell, and her grandchildren, Kiota Sanford Grimes, Taylor Grimes, Casey Grimes, Khalid Gallab, and Jihad Gallab, continue to carry forward the torch of her legacy. Her great-grandchildren will undoubtedly grow up hearing stories of "Granny's" kindness and humor.
Jacquelyn was more than just a family matriarch; she was an anchor to a broader community, affectionately known as "Granny" to the patrons of Jazzy Gs. Her presence was a comforting constant, her laughter a melody that brought people together. Her unique ability to connect with others, paired with her sharp wit and radiant smile, made her a cherished friend to many.
In honoring Jacquelyn's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her life. While the gathering will be intimate, the impact of her love and kindness extends far beyond. Jacquelyn Grimes leaves behind more than memories; she leaves a living testament to the power of love, resilience, and a life well-lived.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
