With profound love and deep sorrow, the family of Jacqueline Elaine Jeffries Evans, affectionately known as “Jackie,” announces her peaceful passing on June 21, 2026, at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jackie’s life was one of compassion, resilience, and quiet strength, qualities that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born to Lloyd Hoover Jeffries, Sr. (deceased) and her devoted mother, Jessie Ray Pitts, Jackie grew up in both North Carolina and New York. As a young woman, she later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she lived for several years with her then‑husband, Derrick Evans (deceased), and their two children before eventually returning to North Carolina to continue building her life and raising her family.
Jackie shared her life with her siblings: John Jeffries (wife Patricia), Donna Kennedy (husband Al), Joycelyn Allison (husband Renard), and LaVerne Dunn. She is also reunited in eternal rest with her brother, Lloyd, Jr., who passed before her. Jackie received her education at Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights/ St. Albans, Queens, New York. Guided by her commitment to service, Jackie began her long and meaningful career with the Wake County Public School System as a School Nutrition Employee.
Over the course of 22 years, she became a cherished presence within the school community, recognized for her warm smile, kind heartedness, dependable nature, and the compassion she extended to students and staff each day. Jackie retired from her role after decades of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of care that touched countless lives.
Jackie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is preceded in death by her beloved children, Stephanie Monique Evans and Derrick Evans II, whose memories she held close to her heart. She leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, each of whom brought her pride, joy, and purpose. Jackie also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and two aunts all deeply impacted by her loving guidance, humor, and gentle strength.
A woman of remarkable grace, humility, and determination, Jackie made an impression on every life she encountered. Her laughter, her compassion, and her steady presence will continue to echo into the hearts of her family and friends for generations. In keeping with the family’s wishes, Jackie’s life will be honored privately. The family extends heartfelt thanks for the many expressions of sympathy, love, and support during this tender time. They ask that friends and loved ones continue to remember Jackie in their own special ways, through shared stories, treasured memories, and quiet reflections on the love she gave so freely.
