Jacob "Jake" Zachariah McCorkhill
March 24, 1936 — September 15, 2026
Jacob "Jake" Zachariah McCorkhill, born on March 24, 1936, in New Castle, Indiana, departed this world peacefully at his home on September 15, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. Jake's journey through life was marked by kindness, wisdom, and a profound love for those around him.
The son of Howard and Elizabeth McCorkhill, Jake was a proud graduate of Purdue University, where he completed a Master's in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. His passion for engineering led him to a fulfilling 30-year career with Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana, where he was admired for his dedication and ingenuity.
Jake also served his country with honor as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy for four years. His experiences in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of duty and camaraderie, which he carried throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Katherine, his brother, Thomas, and his daughter, Rebecca. Jake leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory: his devoted daughter Vicki and her husband John McCormack; his granddaughters Dawn Plunge and her husband Paul, and Adrea McCormack-Allen and her husband Timothy; and his three great-grandchildren, Brenton Levy, Connor Plunge, and Aiden Plunge.
A man of many talents and interests, Jake found joy in traveling, gardening, woodworking, and restoring old cars. His quick wit, warm smile, and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Whether sharing a joke, a story, or a thoughtful compliment, Jake had a unique ability to brighten the day and make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on countless lives.
In accordance with his wishes, a private service was held on September 16, 2026. Jake's ashes will be rejoined with those of his late wife, Katherine, to be spread in the mountains of western North Carolina, a place they both held dear.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Jake's memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to his heart.
Jacob McCorkhill's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will be carried forward by his family and friends, who will always remember him with warmth and gratitude.
