September 18, 1961 — July 16, 2026
Jacob D. Burkett, a devoted family man, steadfast friend, and respected professional, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on September 18, 1961, in the close-knit town of LeMars, Iowa, Jacob was the beloved son of Ken and Sheila Burkett. He carried the values of his upbringing — kindness, integrity, and community — throughout his life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Jacob's early years were spent in LeMars, where he formed lifelong bonds and memories that would shape his character. After graduating from Kuemper High School in 1980, he pursued higher education at the University of South Florida, graduating in 1994. His dedication to excellence was evident as he passed the CPA exam in 1995, embarking on a new chapter in his professional journey.
Before becoming a Certified Public Accountant, Jacob spent 17 years in the men's clothing business, where his sense of style and ability to connect with people shone brightly. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own CPA practice in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2006, where he served his clients with diligence and care.
Jacob's life was enriched by his marriage to Cheryl in 1983, a union that stood as a testament to love and partnership. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and laughter. Jacob cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl, his son Joshua, his daughter Mary and her husband Raleigh, and their children Bowen and George. His daughter Lauren and her husband Hunter, along with their children Jacob and Charlotte, also carry forward his legacy. Jacob's sister Bryce and brother Clay, along with a host of extended family and friends, mourn his passing while celebrating the life he lived.
A man of faith, Jacob was deeply involved in his community and church. As a member of the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg, he found joy in service, participating in retreats, the Knights of Columbus, and various church ministries. His commitment to his faith and his community was unwavering, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who worshipped alongside him.
Outside of his professional and community commitments, Jacob found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, passions he often shared with his children and grandchildren. Whether on the green, by the water, or surrounded by family, Jacob found solace and happiness in the moments spent with loved ones.
A service celebrating Jacob's life will be held at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, located at 515 5th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life lived with love, faith, and dedication.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Jacob's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
