Jackie Mae (Taylor-Scott) Morton

December 28, 1950 — April 19, 2026

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Jackie Mae (Taylor-Scott) Morton on April 19, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 28, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, Jackie was a beacon of strength, love, and grace throughout her 75 years. Jackie was the cherished daughter of Johnnie and Rosie Taylor, and now rejoins them in eternal peace, along with her beloved foster brother, Randy, in God’s Kingdom. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her surviving family: her adoring husband, Jerry Morton; her children, Dana Scott, D’Ann Hobson and her husband Greg, Ronald Scott II; and her cherished stepdaughters, Willa Morton and Christinia Morton. Her six grandchildren, Dale, Jessica, Jordan, Ronald III, Chris, and Genesis, will forever hold Grammy Jack close in their hearts. She is also remembered fondly by her foster brother, Al, and a host of extended family and friends spanning California, Texas, and Washington state. Jackie's journey began in Compton, California, where she was raised and educated within the Los Angeles-Compton public school system. She was a proud graduate of Centennial High School, where she first met Ronald Scott. Together, they welcomed three beautiful children, of whom they were immensely proud. Jackie's mother, Rosie Mae, nurtured her early involvement in the Brownie, Girl Scout, and Senior Girl Scout organizations, setting the foundation for a life of service and community involvement. Jackie’s professional life was marked by dedication and perseverance. After obtaining her certification as a Dental Assistant, she transitioned to the Transportation Division of the Los Angeles Unified School District as a bus driver. When Jackie relocated to Marin County, she broke barriers by becoming the first African American woman to drive a school bus for the Navato Unified School District, a role she held for nearly 40 years. Her unwavering commitment to her work was matched only by her love for the children she safely transported each day. In her personal life, Jackie embodied the spirit of resilience and love. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly, taking a second job at a bowling alley in Vallejo, where she met her soulmate Jerry. Together with their children, they formed a blended family that was the cornerstone of Jackie’s heart. Her faith was a guiding light, nurtured by her active participation at Kyle’s Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where she served as a deaconess and choir member for many years. In retirement, Jackie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: spending time with family, catching up on life’s joys, and embracing the leisure and introspection that retirement afforded her. Jackie's legacy is a testament to her welcoming personality, radiant smile, and boundless compassion. She leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her as Mom, Grammy Jack, Sister, Cousin, Friend, Colleague, Mentor, Earth Angel, and Fellow Christian. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and her special bond with her grandchildren was a source of great joy. A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held on May 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Kyle's Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, located at 709 Keats Dr., Vallejo, CA 94591. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Jackie Morton to the General Fund of Kyle's Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Jackie Mae (Taylor-Scott) Morton will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will forever guide and inspire those who were fortunate to know her. Her life was a testament to love, perseverance, and the enduring power of faith.
