In Loving Memory of Jackie Jones Scates
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jackie Jones Scates, who left this world peacefully on June 20, 2026, following a courageous three-year journey with ALS. Jackie was born on September 18, 1956, in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs, Colorado, to William and Phyllis Jones, who preceded her in death. Jackie’s spirit was one of sweetness, thoughtfulness, and selflessness—a beacon of optimism and positivity to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jackie's life was a tapestry of love, learning, and laughter. She shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Steven Scates, with whom she celebrated countless cherished moments. Their union, which began on a warm August day many years ago, was blessed with two wonderful children: Meghan Brewington, who, alongside her husband Lee and their daughter Ada Lynn, brought immense joy to Jackie’s life, and Philip Scates, who, with his wife Evanne, shared a special bond with Jackie through their mutual love for literature and family. Jackie's sister, Suzanne Wilson, her husband Stephen, her brother Michael Jones, and her best friend Heidi Peterson, along with many dear friends, remain to carry forward her legacy of kindness and love.
Jackie's academic journey took her from the halls of [High School Name], where she graduated with grace in XXXX, to Middle Tennessee State University, from which she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. Her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds was evident in her first position at [School] in [City]. Her journey with Steven took them to Germany, where the Army stationed them for [X] years. There, they welcomed their son Philip, built lifelong friendships, and explored the rich cultures of Europe.
Upon returning stateside, Jackie and Steven settled in Midlothian, VA. Jackie dedicated herself to the Chesterfield County Schools for XX years, first as a beloved teacher at Marguerite Christian Elementary, where she met her dear friend Heide Peterson, and later at Woolridge Elementary School, where she found great joy teaching kindergarten for XX years. Her students and colleagues alike were touched by her kindness and unwavering dedication.
A devoted member of the Southwest Church of Christ in Chesterfield, Virginia for XX years, Jackie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her recent years in Tennessee were enriched by the love and support of her church community, which included both new and lifelong friends.
Jackie's zest for life and love for her family led her to explore the wonders of the world, from the sandy shores of beaches to the enchanting realms of Disneyland. She held a special place in her heart for national parks, where nature's beauty resonated with her own gentle spirit. Her granddaughter, Ada Lynn, was the light of her life, and Jackie cherished every moment spent in her company.
Jackie was a voracious reader, and her book club, shared with Evanne, her mother Phyllis, and her best friend Heide, was a testament to her love of stories. Her laughter was a melody that filled rooms and warmed hearts, and her ability to find goodness in everything and everyone was nothing short of inspiring.
In accordance with her wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Jackie's remarkable life. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered love and support during this time. They wish to thank [Name of Care Providers, Hospice, etc.], who provided compassionate care throughout Jackie’s journey.
Jackie's legacy is one of enduring love and unwavering faith. She leaves behind not just a family, but a world made brighter by her presence. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jackie's memory to [Charity/Organization], reflecting her lifelong commitment to education and community.
