Jack Phares Causey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Phares Causey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 84 on September 11, 2026, surrounded by his cherished wife and sons. Born on July 5, 1942, in Greensboro, Alabama, Jack lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service. Jack was the beloved son of the late Phares Shelton Causey and Josephine Davis Causey Whetstone. After his father's passing, he was raised by his devoted mother, Josephine, and his stepfather, Sam Whetstone, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Brenda Jane Causey, whom he married on June 9, 1973, in Northport, Alabama. Together, they built a life enriched by family and faith. Jack's legacy is carried on by his three sons, Matthew David Causey (Brooke Causey), Aaron Mark Causey, and Adam Timothy Causey (Renee Causey); his adored grandchildren, Noah Causey (Haleigh Causey), Madison Smith (Jacob Smith), Catherine Causey, Connor Causey, Ava Sullivan, Sullivan Causey, and AJ Causey; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Lawson Causey and Sawyer Causey. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Beth Johnson (John Johnson) and Ron Causey (Cathy Causey). A man of remarkable dedication to both his career and community, Jack graduated from Greensboro High School in 1960. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Jacksonville State University in 1995 and completed the Course of Study at Emory University through the United Methodist Church. His professional path saw him retire as Vice President from Regions Bank and later from his role as a local pastor with the United Methodist Church, where he spent most of his career at Alexandria UMC. Even after his second retirement, Jack continued to serve others as the Chief Financial Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Central Alabama. Jack's faith and commitment to service were evident in his active membership at Oxford First United Methodist Church and his dedication to the North Alabama Emmaus community. Throughout his lifetime, he served his community tirelessly as a volunteer fire chief, police chief, EMT-Intermediate, and Calhoun County reserve deputy sheriff for many years. In his personal life, Jack found joy in traveling with his beloved wife and family, cherishing each moment spent with them. His devotion to his church and family was unwavering and will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held on September 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Oxford First United Methodist Church, located at 214 Snow St, Oxford, AL 36203. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of East Central Alabama (PO Box 2347, Anniston, AL 36202) or Oxford First United Methodist in memory of Jack's lifelong commitment to supporting the well-being of youth. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Jack's final days. His spirit, love, and dedication to those around him will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
