November 17, 1946 — March 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Jack Draper, who left this world peacefully in his sleep on March 30, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on November 17, 1946, in the warm embrace of Carbondale, Illinois, Jack lived a life that was both rich in experience and steeped in love. He was the beloved son of Charles and Bertha Draper, who predeceased him, and was their only child, carrying forward their legacy with grace and dignity. Jack's life was marked by dedication and service. From 1966 to 1972, he served with honor in the United States National Guard, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character, a reflection of his deep sense of duty and loyalty. Following his military service, Jack embarked on a career as a pipe fitter, where he became a respected member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union #562. His work was not just a job, but a craft he honed with skill and precision. Jack's colleagues remember him as a man of integrity, whose honesty and work ethic set a standard for all to admire. Beyond his professional life, Jack was a man of many passions. He was a proud member of the Harold O. Gravel Masonic Lodge #672, where he formed bonds of brotherhood and shared in traditions that were dear to him. A lifelong member of the NRA, Jack valued the principles of freedom and responsibility. One of Jack's greatest loves was for cars and the thrill of driving them fast. This passion for speed and adventure was a metaphor for the way he lived his life—full-throttle, with zest and enthusiasm. His friends will fondly remember his loyalty and his candid nature, qualities that defined him and endeared him to many. Jack leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted daughter, Brandy Davis, and her husband Joe, who provided him with unwavering support and love. His granddaughters, Alyssa and Megan Davis, were the lights of his life, bringing him joy and pride beyond measure. In accordance with Jack's wishes, no formal services will be held. His family honors his request and invites those who knew him to remember Jack in their own special way, perhaps with a nod to the skies or a drive down a long, open road. As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life that was well-lived and a man who was deeply loved. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched, leaving behind an indelible legacy of warmth, courage, and authenticity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you honor Jack’s memory by taking a moment to enjoy the things he loved most—a drive through the countryside or, simply, an opportunity to speak your mind honestly, just as Jack always did.
