January 8, 1948 — August 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jack (The Hammer) Deatherage, who departed this world peacefully in his sleep on August 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on January 8, 1948, in Galesburg, Illinois, Jack lived a full and vibrant life marked by resilience, love, and laughter despite facing formidable challenges including dementia, cancer, and a stroke. Jack was the beloved son of Warren Everett Deatherage and Annabelle Marie Lind, who preceded him in death. He is also reunited with his cherished brother, Danny. Surviving Jack are his treasured siblings: Kristine Ferris of Oregon, Jeffrey Lyn of Florida, Steve Havens and Kathy Havens of Arizona, Monica Fitts of New Mexico, and Joe Deatherage. His legacy lives on through his five daughters: Jennifer (Ahrendt), Rebecca (Brown), Danielle (Loutzenhiser), Michelle (Weist), and Jessica (Deatherage), as well as his nine grandchildren: Tyler, Amanda, Zachary, Grace, Ragan, Nicholas, Eric, Lucas, and Emilia, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Jack's journey in life was one of service and innovation. After completing high school in 1968, he joined the Marine Corps with a deep sense of duty to his country. Although his time in the service was cut short due to a medical discharge, Jack's dedication to his nation persisted through his work at Lockheed Martin, where he contributed to advancements in aviation technology. His career also included time as a mechanic in the automotive repair industry, where his skills and work ethic were highly regarded. Jack's personal life was rich and varied. He married Deborah Kay Craigie in the early 1970s, and although their paths diverged after about a year, he found love again with Barbara Gleason in 1976. Together for 18 years, Jack and Barbara shared many cherished memories before parting ways. Jack's infectious smile and laughter were hallmarks of his personality, lighting up every room he entered. His hobbies included tinkering with machinery, enjoying Nascar races, tending to his lawn, and watching wrestling. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Elks Lodge, 2600 N Barrys Resort Dr., Wasilla, Alaska, 99654. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in honoring the remarkable life Jack led. The family want to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care Jack received in his final years at Snow-Inn Assisted Living Home in Eagle River, Alaska. Jack Deatherage leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unyielding spirit. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
