Ivy Taylor

November 30, 1940 — September 8, 2026

IvyLynn Alicia James-Taylor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend. On September 8, 2026, she peacefully departed this life surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 30, 1940, in Colón, Republic of Panama, to Nelly and Hubert James, Ivy was the youngest of ten children. From an early age, she developed a love for art, music, sewing, and community service. In 1970, she immigrated to the United States to join her beloved husband, Armando Taylor Sr., with whom she built a loving home and family. Ivy enjoyed a successful career as a Stock Trader Clerk at Chase Manhattan Bank, where she worked faithfully for more than twenty-five years. A woman of compassion and service, Ivy dedicated over forty years to Lions Clubs International. She began her service in 1978 as a member of the East New York Lioness Club and later became the Charter President of the New Lots Lions Club in 1988. In recognition of her outstanding commitment, she was honored with Lifetime Membership. Among her favorite projects were the annual Senior Thanksgiving Dinner and breast cancer research fundraisers, both causes she supported with passion and pride. While Ivy accomplished much throughout her life, her greatest joy was her family. She was the heart of her home and the cornerstone of her family, known for her grace, kindness, dignity, and welcoming spirit. Her warm hugs, delicious meals, unwavering support, and infectious laughter made every gathering special. She was also known for her unique sayings, including "24/4 instead of 24/7" and her beloved expression, "When push comes to shovel." Ivy found happiness in attending church, concerts, plays, traveling, gardening, hosting holiday gatherings, and spending precious time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She believed in caring for others while also taking time to care for herself, never neglecting her hair, nails, and impeccable sense of style. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Armando Taylor Sr., and her eldest son, Adolfo. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Pedro, Odalys, Gustavo, Judina, Angelica and son-in-law Edison; bonus sons Armando II, Antonio, and Alex; her grandchildren Adolfo Jr., Yuliana, Gustavo, Clyde, Ivy, Armando III, Anastacia, Alyssa, Alex, Shanira, Matilda, Pedro Jr. ("Toti"), Gustavo Jr., Gideon, Shuniquia, Cornelio, Julian, Joelle, Armanni, Taylor, Xybre, and adopted grandson Jeremiah; numerous great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Annette, Mercedes, and Patricia; Family Pets Troubles, Chase, and Freddy; and a host of relatives and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the love, wisdom, laughter, and strength she shared will remain in our hearts forever. Her legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23

Poem / Prayer

A Mother's Love "A mother’s love is always with her children. It’s a whisper in the wind, a warm memory in the quiet moments, and a guiding light that stays with us forever. Thank you, Mom, for teaching us how to love, how to be strong, and how to look for beauty every day.”
