Ivy James Oubre

Ivy James Oubre, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 21, 1955, in New Iberia, Louisiana, Ivy was the cherished son of Sidney and Dorothy Oubre, who preceded him in death, along with his brother Jay Oubre and nephew Dylan Darby. Ivy's life was a testament to faith, family, and the enduring power of kindness. A bright and dedicated student, he graduated as Valedictorian from New Iberia Senior High in 1973, before continuing his education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he studied psychology. His keen intellect and genuine compassion for others naturally led him to a career in sales and business development. For over 30 years, Ivy excelled as a self-motivated and success-driven leader, guiding teams to become customer-focused market leaders. His passion for helping others also found expression in his work as a biblical counselor for The Ark Church. A devoted member of the First Assembly of God for four decades, Ivy's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was also an active member of the Petroleum Club, where his leadership and camaraderie touched many lives. Ivy's love for God and people was reflected in his daily life. Known for his remarkable intelligence and kind heart, he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone around him feel valued and appreciated. His positive spirit and unwavering encouragement brought light to those fortunate enough to know him. Even in the face of life's challenges, Ivy's strength and grace never wavered. He was a beacon of hope and a source of comfort, always choosing to uplift and serve others. Ivy was a true artist at heart, finding beauty in God's creation and expressing his creativity through charcoal sketching and music. As a gifted drummer, he found immense joy in using his talents to praise and worship. He also loved exploring the world, reveling in the beauty and diversity of new places. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Aubrey Dooley and Laura Hoopes, his sister Christine Oubre, brother Miguel Oubre, and 10 cherished grandchildren: Camden Reaux, Ella Reaux, Elexa Dooley, Maya Reaux, Stella Hoopes, Pilot Reaux, Finn Reaux, Jasper Hoopes, Cedar Hoopes, and Indigo Hoopes. A celebration of Ivy's life will be held on August 20, 2026, at 6:00 PM at The Glorious Church, located at 1216 David Street, New Iberia, Louisiana, 70560. In keeping with Ivy's joyful spirit and love for life, the family kindly requests that attendees wear colors instead of black. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Ivy's generous spirit and enduring commitment to helping others. Ivy James Oubre's legacy of love, compassion, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry his memory forward.
