It is with profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Iva Caroline Poole on September 17, 2026. Born on April 23, 1936, in the charming town of Keyser, West Virginia, Iva was the cherished daughter of Mary Park and Mervin Males. Her life was a testament to resilience, and the joy of embracing the natural world.
As an Administrative Assistant with the Federal Government, Iva's career spanned important institutions such as the National Cancer Institute and Fort Detrick. Her work was characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a profound commitment to the tasks at hand, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers.
Iva was a proud member of numerous organizations, including the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Lyon Club, NARF, the Red Hatters Society, and the Middletown Garden Club. These memberships were a reflection of her vibrant social life and her unwavering commitment to community service and friendship.
Iva was also a passionate organic gardener and painter. Her home was a sanctuary of beauty, with extensive flower and vegetable gardens that she tended with love and care. She found joy in raising chickens and maintaining a stunning koi pond, hobbies that showcased her deep connection with nature. Her love for the outdoors was further evidenced by her fondness for fishing and beach outings, activities that brought her immense joy and peace. In her later years, Iva enjoyed traveling with friends and exploring new horizons.
Iva is survived by her beloved children, Holly Campbell, Scott Wessinger, and Mark Wessinger, who were her pride and joy. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren—Caitlin Guyton, Garret Campbell, Jessica Wessinger, Megan Lang, Chad Wessinger, and Tori Wessinger—and her five great-grandchildren, Sophia, William, Gabriel, Matthew and Lena who will carry forward her memory and values. She is also survived by her sisters Millie Stay and Eileen Varinelli of Henderson Nevada and Paul Males Sr of Cleveland Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to The Frederick Rescue Mission @ https://therescuemission.org, reflecting her belief in supporting causes close to one’s heart.
A celebration of the life of Iva Caroline Poole, will take place on Thursday October 1, 2026 @ 1100 AM at the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, located at 6213 Picnic Woods Rd, Jefferson, MD 21755.
She will be remembered not only as a daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother and great grandmother, but as a beloved friend who touched the lives of many. As well as for her love and an enduring appreciation for the natural world will forever remain in our hearts.
