Israel Sanchez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Israel Sanchez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home on August 3, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on December 4, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, Israel was the cherished son of Salvador and Julia Sanchez and a proud brother to Carlos Sanchez, who preceded him in death. Israel's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. On January 18, 1975, he married Maria Elisa Sanchez, the love of his life, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children: Steve and his wife Debra, Vanessa Rivas, and Crystal and her husband Jose Garcia, along with four treasured grandchildren: Jace and his wife Makayla Corpus, Elijah Rivas, James Lucas Garcia, and Caleb Rivas. Israel also shared a close bond with his surviving siblings: Ricardo Sanchez and spouse Daniel Estala, Irene Orr, Sandra Medina, and Annette James. A proud graduate of Memorial High School, where he played varsity football, Israel carried his passion for service into the United States Air Force. Enlisting in 1971, he served as a B-52 aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War, contributing to the mission with unwavering dedication and skill. After his honorable discharge, Israel transitioned to a successful career as an aircraft inspector. Among his favorite memories was the time he inspected an aircraft for actor Morgan Freeman, a moment he recounted fondly with his family, complemented by a cherished photograph. Outside of work, Israel found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, tinkering with cars, or fishing in the serene waters of Rockport, Texas, he embraced moments that brought people together. His quiet strength, sense of humor, generous heart, and readiness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Israel's legacy is one of love, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As we gather to celebrate his life, we find comfort in the words of Matthew 25:23, "Well done, good and faithful servant," a fitting tribute to a life well-lived. A service honoring Israel's life will be held on August 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapel, located at 8332 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, as a way to continue Israel's spirit of generosity and service.
