It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Isiah Hampton Watkins, who left this world far too soon on March 11, 2026, at the age of 36. Born on May 22, 1989, in Far Rockaway, New York, Isiah was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him. His journey, though tragically cut short by a heart attack, was filled with love, laughter, and a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community. Isiah was the cherished son of Cathy and Hampton Watkins, who raised him with love and dedication. He shared a deep and unwavering bond with his parents, who survive him alongside his loving wife, Michelle Watkins. Isiah and Michelle were united in marriage on April 7, 2023, a union that brought immense joy and partnership into his life. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, including their adored children, Maleeyah, Aiden, and Maki, who were the center of Isiah’s universe. A proud and devoted brother, Isiah is also survived by his sister Kayla and brother Javon, with whom he shared countless cherished memories. The Watkins family is further supported by the presence of Isiah's grandfather, Hampton Sr., whose wisdom and stories were a source of inspiration for Isiah throughout his life. Isiah’s educational journey began at Winslow Township High School, where he graduated in 2007. His athletic prowess earned him a basketball scholarship to the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He later continued his collegiate career at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, New York, where he not only honed his skills on the court but also forged friendships that would last a lifetime. In February 2025, Isiah realized a long-held dream by graduating from the 120th class of the Camden County Police Academy. He proudly served as a corrections officer at the Camden County Jail, where his kind nature and ability to connect with others were evident in his daily work. He was also a respected member of the NJPBA, where he was known for his camaraderie and dedication. Basketball was not just a sport for Isiah; it was a passion that brought him joy and fulfillment. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and cherished every moment spent playing the game he loved. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Isiah was a man who brought light into every room he entered. His bright smile, friendly demeanor, and joyful spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Isiah is predeceased by his grandmothers, Lois Osborne and Catherine McKenzie, and his grandfather, Rufus Edward McKenzie Sr., whose memories he held dear and whose legacies he honored throughout his life. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Isiah are invited to celebrate his life at a service to be held on March 26, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church, located at 1115 East Gibbsboro Road. As we gather to honor his memory, let us remember the warmth, kindness, and joy that Isiah shared with us all. In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the love that surrounds us and the memories we hold dear. Isiah's spirit will forever live on in our hearts, as he was truly a remarkable soul who made the world a brighter place. Rest in peace, dear Isiah. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
