Daughter to the late Richard and Edna Kean, Iris was born and raised in Ottawa, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and deep familial ties. Her early life was marked by a strong sense of community and love, values she carried with her throughout her life. Iris married the love of her life, Robert Byers, and together they shared over fifty wonderful years of marriage, crafting a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. The couple was blessed with three sons: Jeff (Kellie), Brent (Kathy), and Glen (Karen), each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy for Iris. Her legacy extends further through her seven beloved grandchildren, who were a constant source of delight and inspiration for her. Though Iris is predeceased by her devoted husband, Robert, her spirit and memory live on in the hearts of her surviving family members, who will forever cherish the moments they spent with her. Her family takes solace in knowing she is now reunited with Robert, watching over them with love. A gentle soul with a boundless heart, Iris had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Her warmth and compassion were evident in all her interactions, from her volunteer work in the community to her active involvement in the lives of her family and friends. Her home was always open, a gathering place filled with laughter, delicious food, and the comfort of her gentle presence. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Ravines for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Iris over the years, and especially during her final months. Their dedication and kindness provided immense comfort to both Iris and her loved ones. A celebration of Iris’s life will be held on May 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Capital Funeral Home, located at 3700 Prince of Wales Dr, Ottawa, Ontario. Friends and family are warmly invited to join in honoring the life of a remarkable woman whose love and light touched so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity close to Iris’s heart, ensuring her spirit of giving continues to make a difference in the lives of others. As we say goodbye to Iris, we remember a life defined by love, kindness, and unwavering strength. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us to cherish each moment and love deeply.
