It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Iretta J. Stephens, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who departed this world on June 8, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in the town of Spillertown IL on July 27, 1937, Iretta was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her.
Iretta was the cherished daughter of the late Jewell M. and Mabel (Klope) Ferguson.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her dear brothers, Thomas Gordan and Roger Ferguson, who preceded her in eternal rest.
On November 27, 1959, Iretta married the love of her life, Howard A. Stephens. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and an unbreakable bond that stood the test of time. Howard, was her steadfast companion for over six decades.
Survivors include- Sister- Nathalie Linder, Brother- Darryl (Debbie) Ferguson and Many nieces and nephews
Iretta’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by her devoted children: Howard A. (Nicole) Stephens of Marion, IL, Anthony B. Stephens of West Frankfort, IL, and Vanessa R. of Marion, IL. She took immense pride in her family, including her ten grandchildren, Austin K. (Nicci) Stephens, Mason J. Stephens, Alex C. (Valerie) Stephens, Madelyn E. Stephens, Quentin P. Stephens, Hanna R. Humphrey, Toni Jo (Hunter) Winchester, Graci L. Holan, and her three great-grandchildren, Addison K. Stephens, Parker C. Stephens, and Carter R. Humphrey. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her love and guidance will forever be their guiding light.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, Iretta found joy and solace in her faith. She was an active participant in the church community and a cherished member of the JOY singers choir, where her melodious voice and spirit of fellowship touched the hearts of many.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Iretta’s remarkable life at a service on Sunday June 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., held at the First Baptist Church, Marion, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, a cause close to Iretta’s heart.
In honoring her memory, we remember Iretta as a woman of grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and a life well-lived. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Iretta, in the arms of the angels.
