Irene Marie Bonnell(Gallant)

It is with profound sadness and tender hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Marie Bonnell (nee Gallant), aged 75, on April 1, 2026, at River Crest Care Center, after a long illness. Born on December 21, 1950, in the charming town of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Irene was a beacon of warmth, love, and compassion to all who knew her. Irene was the cherished daughter of the late Vincent A. Gallant and Lena Gallant. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, her brother-in-law Randy Perry, and her sister-in-law Daisy Gallant. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 55 years, Clyde William Bonnell, who was her steadfast partner in love and life. Together, they shared a beautiful journey, marrying on March 6, 1971, at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Irene was a dedicated mother to her two sons, Dennis Vincent Bonnell and Clinton John Bonnell, who carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience. She is also survived by her loving siblings: brothers Gordon, Earl, Wayne, and Darren Gallant, and her sister Mary Perry. A woman of remarkable spirit and intellect, Irene graduated from the University of Alberta, earning a certificate in Interior Decorating. Her creativity and flair for design brightened many spaces, just as her warm spirit brightened the lives of those around her. An active member of the Catholic Church, Irene's faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring her community. Her life was a tapestry of rich experiences, woven together by her love for travel and adventure. Alongside Clyde, Irene embraced the world, calling places like Athens, Greece, and Vienna, Austria, home, and spending cherished times in France. In their 55 years together, they moved an impressive 34 times, each new destination a chapter in their shared story. Irene was a woman of diverse interests, with a passion for reading and writing stories, particularly those chronicling her life, which she lovingly shared with her family. Her talent for flower arrangements was a testament to her artistic nature and eye for beauty. Known for her joyful disposition, Irene was a radiant presence, quick to smile and slow to anger. Her laughter was contagious, and her ability to forgive was profound. She enjoyed spirited debates, especially with her father, and her love for life was evident in every interaction. A funeral service to celebrate Irene's life will be held on April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Chapel, located at 4703 50 Ave, Gibbons, AB T0A 0A7. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, an organization close to Irene's heart. The Bonnell family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the homecare staff in Morinville for their compassionate care of Irene at home, and to the exemplary staff at River Crest Care Centre in Fort Saskatchewan, who ensured her final days were comforted and pain-free. Irene’s legacy of love, laughter, and light lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory shall be cherished, and her spirit celebrated, by all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
