Born on March 7, 1928, in the peaceful town of Portage, Michigan, Irene lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication. She left us as she lived, peacefully and surrounded by the warmth of her home and family. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Donald Kent, with whom she shared a marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering support. Together, they built a family that would become her greatest source of pride and joy. She is survived by her loving children, Kevin and Kelly Kent, who will forever carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience. As a proud grandmother to four and great-grandmother to another four, Irene's home was often filled with the vibrant energy of youth. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, always eager to share her wisdom and stories from a life well-lived. Irene was a trailblazer in her own right, dedicating her career to the field of chemistry. Her passion for science and discovery was matched only by her commitment to her work, where she made significant contributions that were respected and admired by her peers. Beyond her professional achievements, Irene's life was enriched by her active involvement with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA). In line with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Irene's life.
