In Loving Memory of Irene Kent It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Kent, who left this world on March 1, 2026, just shy of her 99th birthday. Born on March 7, 1928, in the charming town of Portage, Michigan, Irene's life was a testament to resilience, love, and boundless curiosity. Irene was a dedicated chemist, a profession that she not only excelled in but also cherished deeply. Her inquisitive nature and meticulous attention to detail allowed her to make lasting contributions to her field, inspiring many who had the privilege of working alongside her. Irene's professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence, a trait that was evident in every aspect of her life. Beyond her career, Irene found immense joy in the sport of tennis. An avid player, she graced the courts with both skill and enthusiasm well into her years, showcasing a competitive spirit that belied her gentle nature. Her love for the game was matched only by her dedication to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA), where she was an active member. Irene’s involvement with the KIA allowed her to immerse herself in the beauty of artistic expression, further enriching her life and those around her. Irene was blessed with a loving family, married to Donald Kent, her partner in life and love. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering support. Her legacy lives on through her beloved children, Kevin and Kelly Kent, who carry forward her values and spirit. Irene was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren and a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and cherished deeply. Her family was her greatest joy, and she delighted in their accomplishments and adventures. As we remember Irene, we celebrate a life that was full and rich with love, laughter, and learning. Although she is no longer with us, her spirit endures in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. In keeping with Irene's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, an organization that brought her much happiness and fulfillment. May Irene Kent's soul rest in serene peace, as her legacy continues to inspire and guide us all.
