Irene Kent
March 7, 1928 — March 1, 2026
It is with heartfelt sadness and profound respect that we announce the passing of Irene Kent, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many. Irene departed from us peacefully at home on March 1, 2026, just days shy of her 99th birthday.
Born on March 7, 1928, in Portage, Michigan, Irene's life was a testament to resilience, intellect, and warmth. She was a beacon of love and support to her family, friends, and community, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Irene was a devoted wife to her late husband, Donald Kent, with whom she shared a life filled with laughter, love, and adventure. Together, they built a home that was a sanctuary of joy and kindness, welcoming all who entered with open arms and open hearts.
A dedicated chemist by profession, Irene's career was marked by her unwavering commitment to excellence and her inquisitive mind. Her colleagues admired her not only for her expertise but also for her collaborative spirit and mentorship that she freely offered to those around her.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Irene found joy and fulfillment in her active participation in the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA), where she was an esteemed member. Her passion for the arts was matched only by her love for tennis, a sport she played with zeal and grace well into her later years. Irene’s love for the court was paralleled by her love for life — full of energy, precision, and joy.
Irene leaves behind her beloved children, Kevin and Kelly Kent, who were the pride of her life. She was a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent in their company, offering wisdom, comfort, and unconditional love.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Irene's spirit will live on through the many lives she touched. Her kindness, humility, and the gentle strength with which she approached life will continue to inspire us all.
In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held for immediate family members. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Irene’s honor, celebrating her lifelong love of the arts and commitment to community enrichment.
As we say our goodbyes to this remarkable woman, we hold dear the memories of her laughter, her wisdom, and her love. Rest in peace, Irene Kent, your journey here has ended, but your legacy endures.
