Irene Goines

Irene Goines, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on February 3, 1942, in Paterson, New Jersey, to the late John and Mary Goines, Irene lived a life of dedication, love, and service that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Irene was a devoted wife to her late husband, John Goines, with whom she shared 43 beautiful years of marriage. Their union, celebrated on June 10, 1965, in Washington, DC, was blessed with five wonderful children: Karen Goines, Sean Goines, Queen Goines, Patricia Muhammad, and Shareef Goines. Together, they created a nurturing and loving home in Paterson, NJ, where family values and togetherness were always at the forefront. Her career spanned four decades at the local hospital, where Irene's compassionate nature and unwavering dedication helped countless individuals through their times of need. Her retirement in 2007 marked the end of an era of selfless service to her community, yet she continued to be a beacon of wisdom and support to those around her. A pillar of her community, Irene was an active member of Greater Mount Calvary Church for over 50 years. Her roles as a deacon, treasurer, and various other leadership positions within the church showcased her commitment to faith and community service. Beyond the church walls, Irene passionately engaged in youth mentorship, offering guidance and support wherever it was needed. Irene's life was enriched by her love for cooking, shopping, knitting, and, of course, her cherished daytime stories, with General Hospital being a particular favorite. Her impeccable style and fondness for hats were well-known among her family and friends. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Irene is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Goines, her sister Mildred Goines, and her brother Elwood Goines. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry her legacy of love and kindness. A service to celebrate Irene's life will be held on October 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Greater Mount Calvary Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice. The Goines family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Joseph's Hospital for their compassionate care and to everyone who has gathered to honor Irene's memory. "Forever in our hearts."
