It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Imogene Louise Bedwell Laws, who left this world peacefully on June 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Christmas Eve in 1922, in Charleston, Arkansas, Imogene was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her.
Imogene was the cherished daughter of Clyde Samuel Thomson and Jessie Mayfield Deziel. She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Maurice Bedwell, Jr., and Edwin Laws, as well as her siblings, Gladas Patterson, Ada Adair, Naomi Ramos, and Samuel Thomson. She is survived by her devoted children, Martha Roberson and her husband Brent, Elizabeth Hawkins and her husband David, and Patti Richardson and her husband Gary. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Catherine Chimbel (Robert), Carl Roberson, Jr., Elizabeth Richardson, Richard Richardson (Sam), Amy Garner (Scott), and Nancy Ross (Ben), and her fifteen great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. She is also fondly remembered by her nephews, John Patterson and Joe Ramos, and her niece Debra.
Imogene's life was marked by her indomitable spirit and her unwavering commitment to her community and family. She served as president of the Sparks Young Ladies Hospital Guild and was integral in organizing the first Hardscrabble Ladies Tennis Tournament. Her dedication to her faith was evident through her over 80 years of membership at the First Presbyterian Church, where her service will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at 116 North 12th Street.
A woman of many talents and interests, Imogene was a seasoned fisherwoman, an exceptional bridge player, and an avid sports fan with a particular love for tennis and bowling. Her passion for life took her on extensive travels, and she was known for her love of animals, especially her dedication to the Kitties and Kanines organization. Even into her 100s, she was the dancing queen, gracing the dance floor with elegance and joy. Imogene was a jokester and a risk-taker, qualities that endeared her to many and made her a beloved figure in her community. She had an extraordinary ability to find joy in any situation, uplifting those around her with her positivity and resilience.
Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Brookfield Assisted Living and Heart Hospice Care for their compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kitties and Kanines organization or the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Imogene's honor.
