Imelda J. Pena

Imelda Acosta Pena, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, peacefully departed this world on August 16, 2026, at her home. Born on April 11, 1945, in the vibrant city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Imelda was the daughter of the late George and Gloria Acosta. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Acosta; her devoted husband, Jesse Pena Sr.; and her dear grandson, Joseph Pena. Imelda's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, compassion, and dedication. She spent her formative years in Chicago, Illinois, where she graduated from Kelvyn Park High School. In 1975, she married the love of her life, Jesse Pena Sr., at a ceremony held in a Catholic Church, marking the beginning of a joyful and enduring partnership. A homemaker by vocation, Imelda dedicated her life to nurturing her family and creating a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her surviving grandchildren, Jesse Pena Jr., George Pena, Thomas Pena, Michael Pena, Sandrea Dimmick (Pena), Melissa Pena, Sadie Pena, and Adeline Pena, were the light of her life and the proud testament to her legacy of love. Imelda was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an active member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Chicago, where she was a familiar face to many. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared her gifts generously with her community, particularly through her involvement with the local YMCA. There, she taught sewing and cooking classes, sharing her skills and enriching the lives of those around her. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life. Imelda delighted in cooking, sewing, painting, and thrifting. She had a keen eye for finding beauty in the ordinary and a gift for transforming it into something extraordinary. Her quick wit and warm smile were her trademarks, endearing her to everyone she met. Known for her kind and giving nature, Imelda's heart was as warm as her laughter was infectious. Though her physical presence will be dearly missed, Imelda's spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
