In Loving Memory

Ida Mitchell
May 10, 1945 — October 16, 2026
Ida Mitchell, 81, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 16, 2026, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 10, 1945, in Summerton, South Carolina, Ida lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for others. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and steadfast devotion to family and friends touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Ida had a profound love for children, which she generously shared through her service as a foster mother to many. Anchored in her faith in Jesus Christ, she expressed God's love both through her words and actions. Prayer was a constant part of her life, and she never hesitated to lift up family members, friends, or even strangers in prayer, offering comfort, encouragement, and hope wherever she went.
Throughout her life, Ida drew strength from the Gospel and maintained a deep, personal relationship with God. She faithfully served in various church ministries, always willing to lend a helping hand without seeking recognition or praise. Her quiet humility and servant's heart were evident to all who knew her.
Despite facing numerous health challenges, Ida remained resilient, independent, and grateful. She found joy in meaningful conversations, studying God's Word, and staying connected with her beloved family and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Cassie Benbow; her brother, Willie Benbow; her sisters, Vivian Benbow, Lillian Scott and Mae Gibson; her daughter, Sonya Mitchell; and her grandson, Jarrett T. Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Nathan Benbow (Bernice) and Thomas Benbow; her daughters, Janice Johnson (Brian) and Rachel Thompson (Joe); her grandson, Brian Johnson Jr.; and her granddaughter, Brielle Thompson, with whom she shared a particularly special bond. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who held a special place in her heart.
Though Ida's presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, love, kindness, and selfless service will continue to shine in the lives of all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23

The Day God Called You Home
God looked around his garden And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, ‘Peace be Thine.’ It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
Special Thanks
The family of our loved one extends heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, support, and kindness during this time.
