Ida Lou

Ida Lou, a cherished soul who graced this world on April 7, 1939, in Birthright, Texas, departed from us on July 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She spent her final days in the warm embrace of her beloved daughter’s home, passing peacefully, surrounded by the family she held dear. Born to Thomas Charles Love and Sally Oquin, Ida was raised with strong values and a heart full of compassion. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Thomas Tate, her second husband Russell Hillary Hammock, her sisters Pat Smith and Ida Mae Bussell, her sons Thomas Tate and Dennis Hammock, and her daughter Tina Hammock. Despite the heartbreak of these losses, Ida always found strength in her faith and in the love of her surviving family, especially her devoted daughter, Tammy Tate Hood, and her seven adored grandchildren. Ida's educational journey took her through the halls of Hillbilly High in Quilin, Texas, where she completed the 8th grade. Her innate wisdom and resilience, however, guided her through life’s many challenges and triumphs. She built a rewarding career at Marking Systems in Plano, Texas, rising to the position of head mail clerk before her well-earned retirement. On February 14, 1958, Ida embarked on her first marital journey with Thomas Tate, and on October 18, 1960, she found love once again, marrying Russell Hillary Hammock. These unions were marked by deep love and companionship, providing her cherished memories and a loving family. Ida was a pillar of her community, actively participating in Valley Creek Baptist Church in Leonard, Texas. Her presence at the church potlucks was always eagerly anticipated, where her famous fried chicken and pineapple square cake were enjoyed by all. Her love for her church family was as vibrant as her passion for the color purple and the joy she found in watching hummingbirds fluttering past her window. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds. Ida's life was a testament to the beauty of simple pleasures and the profound impact of a loving heart. She found immense joy in nurturing her children and grandchildren, ensuring that each knew the depth of her love and pride. A service to celebrate Ida’s life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Creek Baptist Church, located at 3478n Valley View Rd, Leonard, Texas 75418. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, a life that touched so many with its grace and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests making a donation to a charity of your choice, in honor of Ida’s generous spirit and her unwavering commitment to helping others. Ida Lou will be missed dearly, but her legacy of love, faith, and warmth will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, with the hummingbirds dancing in the purple fields of heaven.
